Many of our players play for fun in friendly non-competitive games – known as Scrims. Others just come along to train and never scrim and some of our players play competitive bouts both for Cornwall and also for a number of other teams across the UK.
There are so many reasons to play Roller Derby but everyone who plays for Cornwall Roller Derby has one thing in common – they all love to Roller Skate.
A little bit about Roller Derby
Roller Derby itself started in the USA in the 1930’s, The game in those days was very different to the modern game. It was played on a banked track and was more of a marathon race – with extreme violence.
Since being re-invented in the early 2000s Roller Derby has become an international phenomenon. The sport is managed by the players and has a very DIY approach. It is very inclusive, embracing all genders, and has a reputation for equality, fairness and being supportive – as well as being full on, competitive and challenging.
Everyone comes to Roller Derby for a different reason, there is no right and no wrong. It never judges, it never condones, it merely embraces.
We have all fallen absolutely in love with the sport at Cornwall Roller Derby and we are positive that you will too.
